It was now almost four in the afternoon and dinner was ready. We all sat around the long fully dressed table in expensive silverware that was only available by order and I knew this because mom had been on the waiting list since last summer waiting for her order to come through. I tracked my gaze upon her to see if she was seeing what I was seeing and indeed she was. "Lovely silver Mrs. Beaufort, Schwartz kitchenware?" she wore her Sunday's best smile complimenting.
Mrs. Beaufort wore hers "Yes, I'm disappointed in the delivery service though. Took them five days to get it to Me." she replied nonchalantly focusing more on gesturing for the maid on the left to walk over to her. Mom hummed in response and soon enough the maid pulled away from Mrs. Beaufort nodding for the order she had just gotten.
The same chef who had stood over on a short platform near the dinner table announcing and explaining tonight's menu was also the one to say grace and that in itself was different from how dinner was served in my own home. Usually the chef at home would stand over directing to our two maids where the food would go not half a dozen maids and also on days we remembered to say grace it would be led by a Luthor member whilst holding hands like a family not by an outsider who wasn't even joining us for dinner. But at least I got something out of this. I got to hold Conrad's hand and just like that I decided to hold it as firmly as I wanted without seeming like I was pulling moves on him.
The food tasted great and French, in my opinion it was going very well once every while I would hear mom or dad say something I was sure would give Tess and I conversation later on. I also knew my sister was internally rolling her eyes back in snark but through it all we maintained our manners coming into conversation here and there with smart proper answers. Dad sure looked happy and so I was sure he was ok too. The table was cleared and we sat still waiting for the desert the chef had talked about. At our house mom wouldn't allow for unhealthy desert like cake that is why I was looking forward to the marble cake and ice cream the chef had described for us.
Instead of indulging in the dessert we got a front row seat to a Beaufort family fight instead.
