She walked out of my room right after that and I was left standing with this empty pit in my gut. I felt as if my pancreas had been ripped out and shoved back in after it had been salt 'n' peppered.
"Hey," He said wrapping his arms around her.
"Wait, what the devil is going on?" Todd asked standing up, still a bit topsy.
"With what?" Keith asked leaving his arm around her waist.
"Seriously dude?" Todd shot back pissed. "What happened to our bro code 'Never hook up when we are all drunk as shit!'" He asked, moving towards them.
"Who said we hooked up?" Keith replied defensively.
"So, you're telling me that the both of you have done nothing together?" Todd pressed. "And the hug is just but a Good morning gesture?"
"Nope and Yes," Keith replied to the two questions.
How could he even stand there and lie like that!
"Are you kidding me?" I said right after they both stopped talking. The look on Keith's face was priceless. His eyes narrowed and I could tell he was hoping I'd stay out of it. Better luck next time, douche face. "They hooked up fifteen minutes ago in my bathroom."
"Whoa! Dude, how could you..." Todd said now inches from Keith's face. "Stop messing around man!" He added shoving him a bit.
"Haha, are you seriously going to believe her?" Heidi said and stepped in between them. "Kathleen would say anything to have things seen her way. Keith and I did not hook up. Your bro code is still intact."
"I have had it with your bullshit Heidi!" I yelled. "Why are you even defending him?"
"See, I told you she would do anything and this, is her classic 'getting all upset phase' when no one believes her! And I am not defending him because, nothing happened!"
"I said that's enough!" I slammed my hand on the kitchen counter and pain shot through my arm. "Get. Out. All of you."
"We're no longer in High school Kathleen. Mr. Davidson is no longer here to calm you down and hear your sappy side of the story!"
Oh, she had gone way too far.
I grabbed my backpack from the floor, unzipped it and yanked out her purse. The black box fell to the floor and I pushed it out of the way. I walked past them, opened the door and threw her purse down the hallway.
"Out!"
I could feel tears stinging my eyes but I fought to keep them at bay. I would never give them the satisfaction of seeing me breaking down! Todd and Keith took a hold of Andrew's sleepy ass and carried him out.
"What's with all the yelling?" Andrew mumbled.
When she was through the door, she hesitated for a split second and turned around. I slammed the door right in her face, adding the deadbolt while I was at it.
I sank to the floor and my right foot touched something. The black box lay open on the living room floor with its contents on the ground; a shiny sorrowful reminder of the downfall of our friendship.
