From the outside corner of my eyes I saw familiar silhouettes making a run for the outside walls. I ran after the silhouettes on basic instinct ready to turn them in to the school authorities. Until I recognized Conrad and stopped noting the shadow of a school security officer exiting the library building and all too aware of the beat in my heart.
Something tugged in me making me not rationalize anything and act on impulse.
I followed the trail the boys used allowing the little athleticism in me to carry me over the walls they’d each climbed over ever so easily out of practice for sure on the road to Constance’s house definitely. When I was with my ex much to my chagrin he used to drag me to the fields where he’d make me run laps with him and help him practice and keep in shape for Lacrosse. If he could see me now taking up those walls smoothly and easily he would be proud.
Back in the Middle Ages people would use smoke fires to communicate messages and locations. Here in the twenty first the cool kids use iphone torches to communicate locations. The three followed the light and in the cold chilly air I followed the light too making sure to not make a sound and get myself caught not by the school staff and most definitely not by the three. The light led us to the swimming pool. The closer we got the more nervous and the more I came back into my body letting it settle how far I’d come. So I searched and decided to sit at the far end of the pool where all darkness seemed to gather and no one would come and find me being a peeping tom. Not that they would care to search the area as the bevy of girls seemed to be less than half a dozen a full dozen at best, fully dressed in casual clothing. Clad in military jackets thrown over crop tops and high wasted jeans it was safe to say the girls were stylish but I wondered more what the repacurtions for them would be if they got caught dressed like that after curfew.
The girls’ squealed at their guests and in true gentlemen fashion the guys howled like animals fascinating the girls.
One of the girls a tall ebony haired thin curvy framed girl ran back to a beats pill and soon everyone was comparing dabs whilst I was stuck under the bleacher bobbing my head up and down to the music like a class A loser it was awful. But not as awful as how it felt when two other girls entered the pool area with one dramatically running into Conrad’s arms and then stuck her mouth to his. I wanted him to brush her off, put her down, let her not be Riley instead he pulled his head from her lips’ distance and flashed her his beautiful smile that even in this darkness seemed like a bright light and it sort of broke my heart. I rolled up the sleeves of my school shirt and unbuttoned my top three buttons suddenly feeling a little under the weather. I scanned the pool to see what the others were doing but my eyes and mind had a separate mind great! Landing my gaze back to Conrad who now seemed to be in the corner in what seemed like an argument with a feisty petite brunette whose face I couldn’t really see to compare. So which one is Riley? From the corner where Lekan and Evan sat hovered by a bevy of girls a bottle of sparkling wine was popped with a noise which suspended the argument happening between him and the brunette.
