After getting over—pushing the thoughts—of a certain woman leaving, I went to Stella café and spent my whole day with Maxine.
We shared a drink, hers being her favorite brandy while mine be my coffee, and we exchanged jokes, stories, and kisses that made even the baristas cringe at our sweetness.
"Seriously, amore mio, you bring fire to my bed! We must have another, sì?" Minx giggled, relaxing under my arm and placing feathery kisses on my neck.
Her kisses tickled me and I hugged her even closer, savoring her warmth that distracted me from my earlier heartache. "Tesoro mio, it's all you. Having you grace my night..."
My words became a whisper when I saw a familiar woman enter the café, suit and serious face, following a taller man with a slick black hair that carried an aura of authority.
Everyone in the cafe, aside from those near them or the staff, steer clear away from them as if they would get burned like a moth to a flame. That woman who could smile and tease me in a carefree manner, stood stiffly and eyes cold as steel and guard up and ready to bite on anyone who touches her. Even those around them stood stiffly before the man with slick black hair.
"The Don's here..." Minx nestled on me comfortably, resting her head on my chest as I caressed her arm. "Hopefully they don't make any mess. Last time they were here, the place was trashed.
I've heard of this 'Don' person. He's a big shot mafia boss that everyone here respected yet feared at the same time. That he controls everything in the small country town along with his men and also took care of the town from those who wanted to cause trouble. I heard how he donated a lot of money to establish a school and church for the people, to fix the roads, and even offered free protection to the businesses who are being harassed by other organizations.
Ross reminded me before he left, to never cross the Don and his lackeys. It wasn't like I would do something stupid and provoke him. I was crazy for having wanderlust, but stupid? Nope. Not at all.
But the one wearing a sling... "Hey my lovely Minx, who's the cold beauty beside the boss?" I asked, eyeing the woman that's been visiting the clinic every night after the knife incident.
"She's the Don's capo bastone, or what they call her, 'little boss'. Her name's Kiel. A bit too serious but civil if you don't get to her bad side." Minx chuckled and bit my neck playfully. "Idiota, you checking out other women while you have me in your arms?" she asked and continued placing wet kisses on my neck.
I shivered when she bit my neck, craning my head to the side to give her more access. Her distraction was perfect as seeing this 'Kiel' woman brought up the memories I rather forget.
A soft moan escaped my lips, pulling her closer and holding her tighter as my body enjoyed the treat from the sexy dancer in arms. As my eyes slowly closed, savoring Minx's lips on my skin, I caught a glimpse of the so-called 'little boss', eyes on me. Those steely gazes were set on mine, and I could see clearly how they were cold and fiery at the same time. Gazes that made my blood run cold yet my body feeling a familiar warmth.
My thoughts of Minx and her actions were casted aside; mind favoring how those eyes gazed upon mine as if the owner wanted to say something. Need something to be said out loud.
Despite the woman in my arms, my heart and mind agreed they wanted something else.
Someone else.
But the memories of her leaving every morning, of earlier morning, overrode the thoughts about her and her heated gaze. It brought upon the feeling of coldness within me that I dare not to feel anymore. So, I turned my attention to the woman who's in my arms, willing to have her take me somewhere away. Far away from those steely gazes.
I indulged Minx and her cravings over me. She was still my passionate dancer, able to mesmerize me by the sway of her hips and the seductive smiles she threw at me. Who am I to deny such woman, correct? With a charming smirk, I leaned close to her and wrapped my arms around her waist. "Tesoro mio, let's take this dance to somewhere private?" I whispered hotly in her ear.
Minx giggled excitedly, moving away from me and making sure I could feel her growing need by feeling her hot breath over my neck. She pulled me off of my chair and I smiled at her lazily, following her bidding.
When my fiery dancer was about to pull me away from our booth, my eyes saw a pair of steely gaze that brought shivers down my spine.
The one called as Kiel, or capo bastone.
The stranger was standing tall, despite her being a few inches small than me, before our booth. Her eyes locked into mine and I felt that the tension suddenly dropped. I could feel that even Minx was not brave enough to face her while I stood my ground.
"Greetings, Maxine," Kiel said with a suave yet polite voice. "The Don wishes to speak with you." Her eyes were still on mine. "Right now, if you may."
It was not a request. It sounded like an order. It was the utmost rule to always follow the Don.
Without any qualms, Maxine showed me an apologetic look. "Mi dispiace, amore mio," she said softly and left; leaving me alone with the stranger who graces my nights with injuries.
"Aww, you scared my Minx away." A fake smile is what I showed her and let out a dry chuckle. "Good evening, Kiel," I said with a bit of bitterness in my voice, still pained from her earlier actions. "Hope you're not injured today. I do like to spend the night with that lovely dancer." I showed her a smile that's cold as my heart.
The little boss walked up to me and grabbed the lapels of my vest. It was a surprise that she could use her injured arm without even flinching. Then again, I closed the said wound, sew it together, without any anesthesia or her screaming in pain.
Her eyes were cold and her lips were curled as she let out a soft snarl. "I need you to treat an injury," she hissed.
I checked her overall physique and I couldn't even find a single injury on her – aside from her arm that is. "And what would I be treating today? You do know I'm not a doctor."
She let go of my lapels and stood a few feet away from me. "You'll know later, Alexandria," she said icily, and stalked away.
I watched her go back to her boss' side, and found Minx talking with the Don. Somehow, I wasn't surprised that she knew my name. With the people here already knowing who I am, her relating to the Don, it wasn't a surprise. With a deep sigh, I accepted the fact that I wouldn't be having a warm night.
