The light started to invade the darkness. My sight blurred as I slowly opened my heavy eyes. The only problem was I couldn't open them and it stung. I started to panic as I couldn't breathe or smell. I thrashed my arms and legs everywhere even just to get a mouth full of air. I started to suffocate as I tipped upside down and closed my eyes as I felt my blood rushing to my head.
I fell unconscious. I started to wake up almost gagging on the sudden gust of oxygen running up through my nose and mouth. moved my hands to feel a soft rocky shore. I opened my eyes and sat up. Did Sangius save me? No he hates me to much already.
So then who? I scanned my surroundings to see the furry face of the sand lion sub I saved. How long had I been asleep for? I scanned my surroundings again and looked to where Sangius sat and he was wearing sun glasses and eating lunch. Wonderful. Now that I am Ignis's soul source of entertainment.
"How long have I been out for ass-hole?" I yelled at him. He tilted the corner of his mouth up in acknowledgement of what I was saying.
"2 days Ferox, now get back to what you are mean to be doing." He lifted his head so he was facing his head toward a random rock a few kilometres from the shore. Great now I have to fight some huge ass monster in the ocean. I looked back at the cub now sitting down at my feet.
I crouched down and stroked his soft golden hair. "Thank you."
I whispered into his delicate small ear and walked over to the ocean. got ready to swim over to the rock up ahead. The cub followed me over to the ocean. I keeled down to stroke his head probably for the last time. I stood up and told him to wait there or go off to his family, if he still had one.
I swam over to the rock . It took me a few hours and I was tiring fast from dehydration. When I arrived at the rock I hoisted myself up onto it to rest. I cupped my hands and drank the sea water. It was not salty.
I eyed the water and submerged myself into it drinking away in delight. Wiping away my dehydration I smiled to myself as I felt heaps better. That's when I noticed my arm. It wasn't ripped into shreds or had any signs of scars on it.
I grabbed my sword which was strapped to my waist along with my shield and gave myself a shallow cut. I put my hand into the water and watched it as it healed. Great it is gonna be ten times harder to kill this thing now it can't die unless I decapitate it. Shit.
I took a deep breath and submerged myself into the water looking around with my blurred vision for any signs of life. I came back up and climbed up to the top of the rock. I put my hands up and without thinking I dived straight into the water.
I looked around and saw a middle sized object rapidly moving towards me. I quickly swam back up to the surface and hoisted myself high up onto the rock just in time as the thing jumped out of the water opening up it's jaw. It had three rows of razor sharp teeth, a slimy human shaped head, it didn't have a nose but slits in the centre of its head, It's eyes were widely parted from each other. The eyes had nothing human about them either as they were blood red with a black slit running through the middle, Its hands had razor sharp claws tipped with slimy green venom, the body stopped mid way for a streamlined tail with razor sharp barbs running down the sides, tattoos snaked down from its neck to the torso with a big scar running down the left side, the things skin was a sickening greyish blue and its ears were pointed like Sangius's. I widened my eyes in horror as it reached out it's hand and slammed my head into to the slimey green rock surface waiting for me.
I winced in pain as it stuffed the green stuff in my mouth and pulled me into the water. "Now lets have some fun."
The thing rasped out and gave me a wickedly cruel smile as it lunged out for me. I blinked and I couldn't believe that I was breathing and I could see underwater. I dogged it with ease and I pulled out the shield and sword I had on me. I quickly grew accustomed to my surroundings as it lunged out again for me aiming its claws for my throat. I blocked the attack with the shield and swiped my sword as if to cut its hand off.
I shrieked in rage as I dispatched one of it's fingers. "Who are you?"
I asked as I dogged attack after attack from the beast.
"I am the water guardian and I am to destroy you, you little worthless being."
It struck again, this time its rows of teeth struck home as they dug deep into my arm. I screamed in pain as I could feel the teeth almost piercing my bones, blood was flowing everywhere as the wound seemed to get worse as I realised it was slowly removing my arm from my body. The pain was getting worse as it hit the nervous system. Through the pain I lunged out for it my teeth sinking into its shoulder.
The skin was like a path of armour as my teeth didn't go very far before it raised its hand to strike me down with though venom filled claws. I pushed off her only to narrowly miss the fatal strike by less than a second. My arm had almost fallen off, all that was left holding it together was a bit of meat and skin. I swam behind the rock using my own blood to cloud the water so the guardian couldn't see where I was going. I lifted my hand to lift my useless arm onto the rock and positioned it in the right spot for it to heal smoothly.
I watched as the nerves and veins started to attach to each other one more time. To long, it was taking to long. "I see you have figured out what the water can do, clever thing you are, to bad I have to kill such a smart cunning little thing."
It changed its volume to keep me from being able to judge how close it was.
"To bad I have to kill you here though, I am sure Ignis would have loved to hear your screams."
Land. It cannot get to me on land and if I piss it off enough I could get it to follow me back to shore, where it might get itself stranded, it was better than option 2.
I looked back down at my arm, it had healed quickly. I pushed off the rock into the open.
"Hey bitch here I am. I would love to stay a listen to you talk nonsense about how you dream of killing me but you need to learn to separate fantasy from reality. Cause a weak little thing like you wouldn't be able to kill me. A worthless, lost, weak little human like me."
I must have struck home as its face scrunched up so much she looked like an old shrivelled lemon. "I was going to make your death quick human but now you are in for it."
It raced after me as I lead it down toward the sure. The green stuff must have made me quicker as I could see the sand cliff right ahead. Now I just needed to distract it so it didn't notice the cliff ahead. "So how do you plan on killing me?"
I didn't dare look behind me.
"Oh I will slowly remove all of your organs, eating them in front of you while my venom slowly makes its way up to where your brain creates pain. That way you scream in pain as well as feel it. It is a perfect punishment for a little brat like you."
I put the idea of the organs out of my head. I needed to stay focused. "Is that all," I crooned, "Honestly I expected more but that seems pretty mild."
Almost there.
"Save your breath human."
There, I dragged myself to the surface rasping and dared to look behind me. I got my shield in front of me and my sword poised at my side ready to strike. The cub seemed to have moved to my side as well ready to attack what was about to appear. Oh fuck. I am so dead.
The guardian was stranded but its tail was slowly forming into two greyish blue legs with small black barbs pointing all over them and its gender seemed to be a girl. Despite what was happening I couldn't bring myself to look at it. "Uh Ignis do you mind chucking our friend here some pants please."
His eyes were wide as he chucked a dry pair of black pants at me. "Uh guardian, woman, thing you may want to put some pants on before you kill me."
I chucked her the pants and she just stared at me.
"Why would I need these things?"
She lifted the pants.
"You may want to cover this part of your body."
She stared at me as I gestured to between my thighs. She rolled her eyes and put them on.
"Ok now that, that problem has been dealt with, I am going to kill you."
"Thanks for the reminder but I am currently living in this body so you may want to come back when I am done living in it."
She only smiled. "Lets play earthling."
She ran in for the attack and honestly I think she is more deadlier on land than in water. She ran swiftly and ran as fast as the wind. I narrowly dodged her attacks. As I was distracted with dodging the next blow with her claws I didn't see the attack from beneath as she knocked me down with a side kick and angled her claws at my throat. "Enjoy hell bitch."
She breathed at me. Her breath smelled of rotting flesh and decay. I couldn't speak without the claws going into my throat so instead I just smiled. As she lifted her arm to strike down the cub leaped out from the side and ripped her throat out with its razor sharp teeth which was now coated with dark green blood. I got up and grabbed my sword.
I cut off her hands and laughed hoarsely. "Enjoy hell bitch." she cursed under her breath as I cut off both her hands and gave her time to scream pointless insults at me as i decapitated her head. coated in dark green blood and my own I stumbled up to where Ignis sat.
"Well that was quite a show."
He smiled and patted me on the back, probably the only sign of affection he would show and looked down at the cub.
"Although I am sure the cub did more than you though."
"It was a team effort."
"Sure."
I looked down at the cub now.
"What are we going to do with him?"
Sangius looked at me.
"Well I don't think he is leaving any time soon so why not give him a name and i'll let you keep him. But you have to look after him cause i'm not."
He gave a pointed stare at the cub.
"I'm gonna name him Solis."
He frowned.
"Weird name."
"Deal with it."
The cub licked my hand in agreement.
"Ok, whatever, at least you have to deal with the bloody beast and not me."
Solis stared at him.
"Be careful or he might get mad at you."
"Why should I be scared of a little beast like that?"
I smiled at him and moved my my head as I gave Solis permission to go punish him.
"Be careful or your immortal arrogance might make you blind of they are capable of."
"And why would you sa..."
He paused in mid sentence as he looked down to see Solis using his leg as a scratch post. I burst out laughing. He looked at Solis before he smiled and chuckled.
"Full of surprises aren't ya Ferox?"
His smile lasted as he continued, "It will take us a week to get to the next trial, Thorns and trees."
"Whats so good about that?"
"You have time to train."
"Yeah like you as an instructor will be so much fun."
I gave him a playful smile. He returned it.
"Come on lets head off."
He gestured for me to follow him. I didn't look back once.
