Michael opened the gate and summoned the Lift of Descend. A rather small, round lift made of glass came from above them. Hope shivered by the sight of it.
“Can’t we just fly down?” She cried. Pain laughed.
“You remember that barrier that they placed under our world?” Health said annoyed. Hope shivered again. To be fair the little lift did not look reliable at all and the wings would definitely be more easy to use. Pain set a step towards the lift. Mammon stopped him.
“You can’t go down with that appearance.”
Pain moaned.
“What is everyone’s problem with my clothes?” He cried. Mammon pulled up an eyebrow, blinked and shook his head.
“No… I meant your horns…. Wings… tails…” Mammon said shaking his head still. A flash of red appeared on Pain’s cheeks.
“Of… of course I knew.” He muttered and turned around to face the rest. Health had already started to pull off his halo. Something that looked awfully painful. Pain concentrated and his horns started to shrink slowly. Scare started with her tail and folded her wings. Hope folded her wings first and concentrated on getting them hidden. The progress on returning to their original human form took some time and energy. The four seemed exhausted when it was almost done. Pain needed to keep on concentrating as his horns and wings were the largest of all of them. Sweat dripped down Health his head as he had given up on his halo and hidden his wings first, he now had to give his halo another try. He grabbed it firmly and started concentrating on it again. Finally, everything was hidden and the four were left sweating and tired.
“I know it hurts and it is exhausting, but it will go easier once you’ve done it more often.” Michael said. Hope’s eyes grew big.
“Do what more often?” She asked.
“Hiding your appearance.” Mammon answered. “While fighting the Seraphims you will need your holy and unholy powers which are stronger when in your true form, however out in the worlds you will need to keep your true form hidden.”
Hope shook her head. She was unsure as to why she was chosen to go on this mission. For as far as she knew she was weak. Very weak. She understood Pain’s explanation as to why Scare and him would be a great team despite their differences in power. But she and Health had no such bond. Although she did have a feeling she had seen him before, but where… she could not say. She could’ve refused.
I should have refused.
But she hadn’t, so now she had to see this through. She had been struck with honor by the fact that they even considered her. She accepted enthusiastically. Now… she had her regrets, but she was sure to grow and learn.
I won’t give up.
She stepped into the lift determined and held her breath when she saw the empty space of air underneath her.
I will not shriek… I will not be frightened.
She relaxed and turned around.
“Well, I guess we should just get going!” She said with a slightly forced cheerfulness. Scare and Pain entered after her and Health was slightly hesitant, but then entered.
“Good luck, kids.” Michael said just seconds before he raised his hand. Ordering the Great Lift to make its descend. The four were silent as they slowly started to go towards the first world. After some time of silence, Health cleared his throat. The others looked at him.
“I guess we should introduce our birth names or names we’d like to use in the worlds below.” He said. The others nodded.
“I’ll just go by my birth name, Thomas.” Pain answered.
“I’ll do that too, it’s Chloe.” Scare followed
“My name was… will be Sarah.” Hope softly answered.
“And I’ll be Dylan.” Health ended.
The silence came back and the four seemed to be brooding on to what is to come next. The silence stayed until, after a very very long time, they finally arrived at solid ground.
