She was beautiful, she really was. Her light brown hair sat gently on her shoulders. Natural blonde streaks ran through it as if they were trying to get off. Her long eyelashes slightly covered her stunning hazel eyes. She was wearing loose jeans and a short-sleeved shirt, a peculiar thing to wear in the blazing heat of summers in California.
Every second I was with her, my heart beat faster. I was getting nervous...I hadn’t felt this in a long time, but I couldn’t let myself feel it. Not again. I couldn’t make the same mistake that I did last time…
I slowly sat up, calmed down a bit. Seeing her hand on mine helped ease the fear as I settled back into my seat. Sadly, she noticed and quickly pulled her hand away.
“Sorry…” she muttered.
I smiled. “It’s fine, it really helped.”
“That’s good.” she sighed then looked back over the ocean. “I hope we get off soon. I have to get home…”
“Ya…” I replied, “my brother is going to be worried.”
“He probably thought that you were so afraid that they stopped the ride for you” she laughed. I laughed too, then looked at her curiously.
“What is your name?” I asked.
“Harper, but you can call me Samena.” she replied, smiling. “What’s yours?”
“Jaime.”
“Well Jaime, nice to meet you” Samena said as she held out her hand. I shook it and smiled. This Samena girl was really something.
“Hey...so wh-” she started when suddenly, the ride lurched as we began to move again.
“OH JESUS FINALLY!” I exclaimed, throwing my hands up.
Samena cracked up and said. “Finally!!!”
As we reached the ground, I began to feel less afraid of the heights, but more afraid of never seeing Samena again. Just in the 10 minutes that we were together, it felt like I had just met my best friend.
Finally, our door opened, and I stepped out. I held out my hand and said, “M’lady!” As she moved to get out. She laughed and took it as I gently helped her out of the gondola. We then stood, awkwardly facing each other outside the ride.
“Well,” I said. “I guess I will see you around.”
“Ya..” she responded, sadly.
Suddenly, I grew bold as I asked, “What’s your phone number?”
She smiled and said, “I’ll only tell you mine if you tell me yours.”
“Deal!” I exclaimed.
After exchanging numbers, we began to go our separate ways. “See ya!” I smiled, calling back at her. “Yup, bye!” she said back. As I walked towards the nearest bench, I took out my phone and texted her.
Jaime: Some ferris ride, huh?
Samena: Totally. Go thank your brother for me.
Jaime: Why?
Samena: Because I got to meet you.
