The ground must be closing in fast now, whatever had taken hold of me had slowed the fall a lot, but this would probably still kill me. At least, that's what I thought. Something slapped me in the back as we plummeted downward, then many things started to hit me as we fell. It was leaves and branches I assume, which meant I had about a millisecond left to live. I didn't feel the impact, one second I was dropping through the air and the next I wasn't, everything just kind of stopped.
At first, I thought I was dead, it was actually a relief that I wasn't feeling any pain. Then my lungs started to protest, I needed to breathe. Someone who's died wouldn't need to breathe, so I obviously wasn't gone yet. If I wasn't dead though, where was I?
I attempted to open my eyes when I looked around me all I saw was murky water. I was underwater! How did I end up here? There was no time to answer my questions, however, as I could already feel myself wanting to inhale. I called upon all my memory of those swim lessons I took in Kindergarten and made my way to what I hoped was the surface. Frankly, I didn't think my lungs would hold out, and they almost didn't. Just when I thought I would kick the bucket, my head breached the surface.
All around me was what looked like a massive jungle, huge trees taller than buildings, and greenery as far as the eye could see. There were flowers blooming everywhere in every color I could think of, and I could already hear the sounds of thousands of birds and other animals. The pool of water I was in was in the middle of it all, like a dot in the beautiful landscape.
As nice a view as it was though, I couldn't concentrate on it for long, the need to get out of the water was slightly more pressing. Dragging myself out, was difficult, as my clothes were soaking wet and heavy, but I managed to do it. Once I was back on solid ground I let myself collapse. Exhausted was not a strong enough word to describe what I was feeling right then. Sadly I couldn't afford to rest, especially considering that there was someone else pulling themself out of the water about thirty feet away from myself.
Whoever it was seemed even more tired than me, if that was even possible. They didn't even pull themself fully out of the water before their body gave out on them. Despite my own exhaustion, I felt the need to make sure they were alive, I mean this was probably the person who saved my ass right? Who else could it have been? Superman?
I crawled over in their general direction until I was close enough to really take a good look at the person. They were tall and lanky from what I could see, and just like me, they were completely drenched. The front of their shirt was also scorched, and their hair was reddish looking...
Oh for the love of puppies and kittens.
