Weeks have passed since the last time all three of us went to our café together.
Sitting in my seat, seconds from being dismissed from this class session, I think today will be a good day to finally get a chance to ask Kian to go to the café again.
“Alright, I’ll see you all in our next class session! Don’t forget your assignments are due next week!” says the professor, over the noise of several students already packing up.
Turning my face, “Hey Kia-“. Before I even get to finish saying his name, he was already crowded with admirers and friends. I don’t even think anyone heard me say a thing. He’s so popular…so likeable. I guess it’s reasonable that he’d have so many other friends and people he’d want to hang out with instead. It just that it’s been a long time since Symphony, Kian, and I hung out… but I shouldn’t hog all their time. Just because they’re my only friends doesn’t mean I’m their only friend.
Forgetting that I even tried to say anything, I quickly and silently pack up my things. Without another word or a “goodbye” or a “see you later”, I just walk out of the classroom.
The moment I step into the hallway, a familiar face appears before mine, surprising me for a split second. “Oh, hi Symphony! It feels like I haven’t seen you in a while.” Like the same with Kian, I haven’t actually spoken with Symphony in some time.
“Oh, hey Yuca. It has been a little while hasn’t it? But you know, it’s near campus event season, so I’ve been pretty busy!” says Symphony.
“I see, so that’s why we probably haven’t been able to go to the café together for a while now.” I say with realization.
“Yep yep! And I’m also here to get Kian right now. He’s been skipping out on helping with the projects lately and that only makes more work for the rest of us.” Symphony says with puffed cheeks.
“Ah…I see…”
“Oh OH, don’t worry! Once we finish these projects, we will definitely go to the café like how we used to! Symphony says as she pats me on my shoulder.
“Ah…hahah… yeah, okay, that sounds great…I’ll see you later then. Good luck to you guys then.” I stepped backwards to let her hand that was resting on my shoulder fall. I turn myself around and walk off.
At this point…as I walk home…alone, my mind doesn’t want to play nice with me.
